The Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A.C.

Mission Statement

The Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A. C. , founded in 2003, is a multi-cultural, non-profit Mexican Civil Association. Our mission is the development and administration of scholarship, educational, medical and environmental programs for the benefit of local children and their families. This is accomplished by working in concert with various community entities and through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers.

We consider children to be the most precious resource of all and are working to improve the quality of their lives. We believe the secret to the future of this pueblo, and the promise for a better world for all, resides in the education and welfare of our children.

Palapa Programs

The Palapa Society contributes to the Todos Santos community by developing and administrating scholarship, educational, medical and environmental programs for the benefit of local children and their families. Currently, Palapa provides numerous educational scholarships(BECAS) to qualified high school and  university students. The “bridge to English” program provides local children with an affordable way to learn English with the help of volunteers from the foreign resident community. The “Chino” program provides help to children who are in need of medical assistance by filling the gap between what the family has and what they need.  Other programs include an adult English program, a bi-lingual library, a summer swimming program,  art classes for children, graffiti removal and trash cleanup around town.

Get Involved

Palapa is always in need of volunteers and donations to help run its numerous programs. There are also opportunities to get involved with fundraising events such as the annual yard sale(Tianguis), and the annual  Todos Santos Music Festival, featuring Peter Buck of REM.

I was a volunteer for a couple of months during 2012. Working with children, youth and adults of the village was very pleasing. The Palapa Society is really a very good option for those who want to learn and study the English language because it combines art and group dynamics to make classes more enjoyable. Personally I consider very important to promote more institutions like The Palapa Society considering that Todos Santos is attracting more and more foreigners. It is a need to extend the communication between citizens and foreigners and studying languages seems to be the best way to open this path. Congratulations to this Non Profit Organization!

I volunteered with Palapa for 9 months for their afterschool English program, adult english program, weekly intercambios, art program and several fundraising events including the Todos Santos Music Festival. Palapa gave me a great way to connect with the TS community in a meaningful way. It was a pleasure working alongside Donna, Erick, and many other dedicated volunteers. I made so many friends and it was a great time! I feel proud to have worked with such a great organization
