6th Annual Baja Blues Fest

The 6th annual Baja Blues Fest, a celebration of the iconic music and a fundraiser for helping kids with “the Blues,” will be held from Aug. 18-20 in the oceanfront gardens of the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort.

Last year the festival, which includes food booths and art exhibits, raised $16,000 for four local children’s groups, Cruz Roja and the Flying Samaritans health clinics.

With an ambitious talent lineup and expanded format, the Baja Blues Fest hopes to raise even more this year for regional charities, said organizer Jackie Alameda. Headliners this year include the Kenny Neal Family Band, Nick Schnebelen and the Backwater Blues Band.

The festival kicks off on Friday evening Aug. 18 with a meet-and-greet and pro jam session from 7pm to 11pm; continues all day and into the evening on Saturday; and concludes with a jam session and party from 1pm until 4pm on Sunday where locals can sign up to play with the pros.

A drawing for a “strung junk guitar” by guitar craftsman Steve Kinney also will be held. Several local promotions to see and play the guitar will be posted at

Three-day all event tickets, advance only, are $45 for adults and $10 for children ages 5 to 10. Adult one-day event tickets are $25 in advance & $30 at the gate. Tickets can be purchased and more information on the festival found Tickets also can be purchased at Baja’s Click-on KM 44 on the Free Rd.

Once again the host sponsor, Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort is offering lodging and ticket packages to those attending the Baja Blues Festival. Each requires a minimum two-night stay and must be purchased by July 8 for the current discounted rates to apply.

Two nights in a standard oceanfront room in the Coronado Tower, with two three-day festival passes included are $309. The two-night packages in a deluxe one-bedroom suit in the Pacific Tower are $319 but do not include festival tickets.

The lineup for this year’s 6th Annual Baja Blues Fest includes:

The Kenny Neal Family Band – Kenny Neal crushed it at the 38th Blues Music Awards this year, winning for Contemporary Blues Male Artist & for for Contemporary Blues Album (Bloodline).

Nick Schnebelen – Founding member of the award winning popular family band Trampled Under Foot (TUF).   Their Blues hit “Badlands” debuted #1 on Billboard and won Best Contemporary Blues Album at the Blues Music Awards in 2014.

Backwater Blues Band – Established in 1996 is one of San Diego’s #1 Blues, Authentic Rock & Blues, Soul Blues, Funk, Originals, Classic Rock Blues, & R & B with guest “Mighty” Mike Schermer, blues guitarist, singer and songwriter.

Blue Largo was formed by guitarist Eric Lieberman and vocalist Alicia Aragon in 1999.  Blue Largo has always been a traditional 1940’s / ‘50’s era blues band and has now released an album “Sing Your Own Song” that contains seven of their original songs. Taryn Donath will join them

Hola Soy Lola – Established in 2011 in Tijuana, Hola Soy Lola’s distinctive style is highlighted by its originality, spontaneity, professionalism and more than anything else, by their joyful and fresh interpretation of classic blues and rock. They are currently on tour in Mexico City & Guadalajara.

Leilani  & the Lost Ones – “When taking a quick glance at Leilani Kilgore, it would be nearly impossible not to come to the conclusion that this girl is a musician. She’s got the look: dark jeans, a punky top, a plaid over shirt, and an overall rocker vibe and edgy aura surrounding her. Topping it all off is the way she carries herself: bold but not over-confident, classic but not obsolete, and meanwhile, wholly authentic.”

The official dates for this event have been announced. The 6th annual Baja Blues Fest will be held at the Rosarito Beach Hotel on August 18 – 20, 2017. However, event dates and schedules are subject to sudden change and cancellation. Please confirm with the event organizer before booking your trip.
