The Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A. C. , founded in 2003, is a multi-cultural, non-profit Mexican Civil Association. Our mission is the development and administration of scholarship, educational, medical and environmental programs for the benefit of local children and their families. This is accomplished by working in concert with various community entities and through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers.
We consider children to be the most precious resource of all and are working to improve the quality of their lives. We believe the secret to the future of this pueblo, and the promise for a better world for all, resides in the education and welfare of our children.
The Palapa Society contributes to the Todos Santos community by developing and administrating scholarship, educational, medical and environmental programs for the benefit of local children and their families. Currently, Palapa provides numerous educational scholarships(BECAS) to qualified high school and university students. The “bridge to English” program provides local children with an affordable way to learn English with the help of volunteers from the foreign resident community. The “Chino” program provides help to children who are in need of medical assistance by filling the gap between what the family has and what they need. Other programs include an adult English program, a bi-lingual library, a summer swimming program, art classes for children, graffiti removal and trash cleanup around town.
Palapa is always in need of volunteers and donations to help run its numerous programs. There are also opportunities to get involved with fundraising events such as the annual yard sale(Tianguis), and the annual Todos Santos Music Festival, featuring Peter Buck of REM.
