New Rock & Brews Opens in San Jose del Cabo: Rock Legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley Co-Host Grand Opening

New Rock & Brews Opens in San Jose del Cabo: Rock Legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley Co-Host Grand Opening

by Chris Sands

For over twenty years, Sammy Hagar has been the most celebrated man in Los Cabos. In addition to bringing the Cabo Wabo Cantina and Tequila brands to Cabo San Lucas, he also brought plenty of star power and media attention to his adopted home. But the former Van Halen frontman may finally have to share the spotlight. Two members of everyone’s favorite face-painted rock band, Kiss, are coming to Los Cabos this weekend, and it looks as if they’re planting roots. Rock legends Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will co-host the March 22nd and 23rd Grand Opening at the new Rock & Brews restaurant in San Jose del Cabo.

Rock & Brews grand opening is scheduled for 7 p.m., March 22nd, in San Jose del Cabo.

This will be the first international location for the new rock & roll-themed dining concept, and the second restaurant in what looks to be a burgeoning chain (four more U.S. locations are expected to open later this year, with more on the old drawing board). Musicians Stanley and Simmons are joining Rock & Brews co-founding partners Michael Zislis and Dave Furano, as well as local partners Jessica Moreira, Rodrigo Cabeza De Vaca, Sergio Martinez, Alfredo Gadsden, Gabriel Gadsden and Mario Gadsden for the opening.

Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are partners in Rock & Brews, and will be in Los Cabos to attend the opening festivities.

“I am honored to join the Rock & Brews lineup, and am especially excited for our first international location in Los Cabos,” said Kiss guitarist Paul “Starchild” Stanley. “Rock & Brews is truly a unique concept that embraces music and concert-style social gatherings like no other dining venue.”

The Rock & Brews concept, as Stanley alludes, is a concert-themed atmosphere paired with casual comfort food favorites and a huge selection of craft beers. The indoor dining room is decorated like the backstage area at a rock concert , with murals, album covers, and other memorabilia. Flat-screen TVs will show classic live performances (powered by the high-fidelity sound system), and after the evening dinner rush, an onsite DJ will spin a mix of classic and contemporary favorites.

Like Cabo Wabo and the granddaddy of them all, Hard Rock Cafe, Rock & Brews seems destined to export its “party hearty” ethos across a significant portion of the globe. The original Rock & Brews opened last year in El Segundo California, and expansion looks to be occurring at a rapid rate. The San Jose del Cabo restaurant is the first of several new sites scheduled for Rock & Brews this year, with other locations due to open in Redondo Beach, Maui, Kansas City, and at the Los Angeles Airport.

The backing of Kiss veterans Simmons and Stanley certainly doesn’t hurt. Kiss is one of the most successful bands in the history of American popular music, and has sold over 100 million records. The band was formed during the early 1970s heyday of New York Glam Rock – the original lineup included bassist Simmons, guitarists Stanley and Ace Frehley, plus drummer Peter Criss – and parlayed a unique blend of costumed theatrics and anthemic power rock into dizzying mainstream success. Kiss was a merchandising behemoth in the late 1970s (at one time, they even had their own action figures), and has retained its popularity through several lineup changes and cultural mood shifts. Four decades after its founding, the group continues to sell out arenas around the world.

The band’s rabid following, the so-called Kiss Army,  has been invited to Los Cabos to participate in the Rock & Brew opening. Well, 400 of them have anyway. The Tourist Corridor-based resort Sheraton Hacienda del Mar is hosting a Kiss Army Rock & Brews weekend package, which includes a two-night stay in a deluxe room with a Jacuzzi and private terrace (March 22-23), two tickets to the Rock & Brew grand opening event, meet-and-greet and photo opportunities with Simmons and Stanley at the resort’s signature restaurant, De Cortez Grill, and a Rock & Brews San Jose del Cabo t-shirt.
