Come join the fun for the 23rd annual Subasta organized by Fundacion Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C., on Sunday, December 4, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Marina de La Paz. In addition to a grant from the Mexican government and other sources, major funding comes from the yearly bazaar and auction. The money from the auction will be used to fund FANLAP’s programs for the 2012 – 2013 school year. There is no entrance fee for the event.
You may help in the following ways: for the auction and bazaar you can donate items for boats, homes, clothing, or any other “treasure”. Bring donations to the Marina de La Paz office, Legaspy and Topete, during normal office hours.
The day of the auction, FANLAP is looking for helpers to work at all the booths: the bazaar, the beer and soda booth, the bake sale, bargain table, and the cash drawers where pesos and dollars are exchanged for scrip. FANLAP´s mission is to provide basic support of food and education for children and adolescents from impoverished areas to give them the opportunity to complete their education and improve the quality of their lives. Although the proceeds from Subasta 2011 will be used for all of our programs, our major emphasis lies in helping students complete high school. The students receive uniforms and gym clothes, school shoes and tennis shoes, backpacks and school supplies, and transportation to and from school. Tuition is also paid for students of senior high.
Due to FANLAP’s efforts, from 2000 through the end of school year 2010 – 2011, a total of 226 students have completed junior high school, 49 students have completed senior high school and two students have completed their higher education. Students must maintain a grade point average of 8, out of a possible 10. The students also perform community service in exchange for what they receive.
FANLAP is the only non-profit in the state of Baja California Sur to be certified for professionalism and transparency by the Centro Mexicano para la Filantropia, (CEMEFI), an organization of businesses, community foundations and civil organizations like FANLAP.
