La Paz celebrates its birthday on May 3rd, honoring the day in 1535 that Hernan Cortes first sighted what would eventually become the largest city in Baja California Sur. This year’s multi-day Festival de Fundacion (Foundation Festival) again serves as a showcase for local art, culture and cuisine, with activities and concerts – including a traditional reenactment of the first landing of the Spaniards – centered around the malecon and Plaza Constitucion (also known as Jardin Velasco), the central plaza located across from the old church. Performers include Celso Piña and La Gusana Ciega.
The official dates for this event have been announced. The La Paz Foundation Festival – commemorating the 481st anniversary of the capital city of Baja California Sur – will take place May 3 – 6, 2016. However, event dates and schedules are subject to sudden change and cancellation. Please confirm with the event organizer before booking your trip.
