Hello Baja fisherpeople,
I am a researcher at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County working on the evolutionary relationships of the flatfish genus Pleuronichthys. I need a tissue sample with voucher photo and locality data for the Ocellated Turbot, Pleuronichthys ocellatus. I am willing to pay a small fee for your trouble and will provide instructions on how to take the sample.
This species is most commonly found in the northern 2/3 of the Sea of Cortez, nearshore on sandy flats or rocky reefs. Please check out this link for an illustration, information on identification, etc.
