The small community of Miraflores (in English: Behold the Flowers) is primarily known for three things: the extraordinary longevity of its residents, its superb organically farmed produce, and its annual festival dedicated to the glories of the pitahaya dulce. This fruit from the organ pipe cactus was the most prized foodstuff of the region’s original inhabitants, the Pericues, and the summer harvest remains a treasured tradition. The festivities last an entire weekend, and feature food, drinks, music, arts and crafts, pitahaya gathering contests, the crowning of a festival queen, and of course all sorts of Pitahaya related dishes, preserves and liqueurs.
Miraflores is approximately 45 minutes by car from San Jose del Cabo; just south of Santiago and the Tropic of Cancer monument.
The official date for this event has been announced. The 26th annual Feria de la Pitahaya will be held July 15 – 17, 2016 in Miraflores. However, event dates and schedules are subject to sudden change and cancellation. Please confirm with the event organizer before booking your trip.
