In Cabo San Lucas, the top stop for sun-soaked summer fun is Playa El Medano, better known as Medano Beach. This two mile stretch of golden sands borders the protected bay, and is lined with a succession of luxury resorts, colorful cantinas, and water-based activities rental concessions.
Although crowds reach their peak during the Spring Break months of March and April. when thousands of U.S., Canadian, and Mexican students blanket the shoreline, summer remains the best time of year to visit Los Cabos’ best known beach. Warm water temperatures and increased visibility translate to superb swimming and snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez’ southernmost inlet, and the sizzling Baja sun makes ice cold cervezas taste that much better.
During the summer months, Cabo San Lucas Bay is a hive of activity. Wave runners weave in an out of water taxis motoring from the Marina to Medano or Lover’s Beach, fishing boats head for their favored spots, daysailers skim along the coast, and cruise ships often lay at anchor in the midst of it all.
Medano Beach boasts a wealth of water-based activities options. Wave runners are a perennially popular choice, and provide one of the quickest and coolest ways to check out the seaside scenery.
Although best known as a romantic getaway destination, Cabo San Lucas is also family-friendly, and offers safe conditions for seaside sports like swimming, snorkeling, and bodyboarding.
Looking to get away from it all? Stand up paddleboard surfing is the world’s fastest growing water sport, and a perfect way to explore the natural granitic rock formations at Land's End.
Who has time to build sand castles? There is so much more for kids to do on the beaches of Los Cabos.
Medano may not be the area's best surf beach, but it's a great place to rent a stand up paddleboard, or soak up the seaside scene.
Circus-style performances are par for the course at Mango Deck, home to the beach’s premier sex position contest, and a wandering bartender named Big Johnson, who hands out tequila shooters from criss-crossed bandoliers.
Summer holidays like the 4th of July provoke patriotic displays from red, white, and blue clad vacationers, while fireworks displays light up the sky over Land’s End and Cabo San Lucas Bay.
During the dog days of August, triple digit temperatures and tropical cocktails tend to lower inhibitions at the beachfront cantinas that border the bay.
Cabo San Lucas is one of the world’s premier locations for destination weddings, although these south of the border celebrations often lack a certain formality.
Looking for aerial views of Land’s End and Lover’s Beach? Activities like flyboarding, parasailing, and motorized hang gliding provide spectacular vantages from which to view the local landmarks.
Water taxis ferry capacity crowds of partiers from the densely packed sands of Playa El Medano to the formerly secluded shores of Playa del Amor.
Sun-shaded Lover’s Beach lookouts provide plenty of privacy, as well as sheltered glimpses of Neptune’s Finger and other colorfully named rock formations.
