Ensenada is one of the very few fortunate communities that are located along the coasts of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. The seat of municipality is a small city that goes by the same name, and is located on the western shores of the municipality so that it has developed the nickname “La Bella Cenicienta del Pacifico”, meaning The Cinderella of the Pacific. What’s great about Ensenada’s beaches and shores however, is that they do not stop being magnificently beautiful even at the strike of midnight. In fact, Ensenada’s beaches are wonderful vacation and tourist destinations all year round.
San Miguel Beach
Located just beyond the last toll booth you will encounter along Ensenada highway, San Miguel beach is by far the best beach in Ensenada to surf. Many San Diego citizens tend to drive to San Miguel Beach to swim and surf, especially during the weekends. The drive from the international border to San Miguel Beach is just over an hour, since it is located near the Tijuana-Ensenada highway. San Miguel Beach boasts of challenging waves and shores of fine sand where locals and tourists can surf, swim, scuba dive, kayak, sail, snorkel and sunbathe. Near San Miguel beach are a number of hotels, restaurants and a few shopping centers.
Just a couple of miles south of Ensenada city proper is a beach many consider one of the best places for swimming in the entire Baja California Peninsula. This beach is known to locals and vacationers as Estero Beach. Because of Estero Beach’s spacious, gentle sloping shore, it has become a popular place for playing beach volleyball, sea-side horseback riding, and sunbathing.
Many tourists love to bring their entire families to Estero to enjoy all the activities in this place. Snorkeling and scuba diving are a favorite Estero beach activity because of its clear waters and its diverse marine life. Kayaking, windsurfing and fishing are also popular beach activities in Estero Beach.
Baja beach is another beach located south of Ensenada’s main city. This Ensenada beach is surrounded by several beach resorts and hotels making it a comfortable and convenient beach to visit. Because of the accessible amenities, the beautiful sight and the many water sports activities available in Baja Beach, it is a favorite daytime destination for vacationers and tourists that have kids with them.
El Faro Beach
If you want to go to a more relaxed and quiet Ensenada beach, try the El Faro beach, located a mere 15 kilometers along the transpeninsular highway. Because of its breathtaking scenery, its fresh atmosphere and its clean, sandy beaches, El Faro beach makes for a perfect campground. Around the beach are RV parks, small hotels, several stores and accessible amenities such as laundry shops and sea-side cottages.
