For the second year in a row, the magazine Travel + Leisure Mexico conducted its “Gourmet Awards” to honor the best cuisine in Mexico.
Among the winners were two Baja California restaurants: Mission 19 and Chef Javier Plascencia, and Corazon de Tierra and Chef Diego Hernandez.
There are 10 categories that make up the Gourmet Awards, and those categories are:
Best Spanish Television Show, Book of the Year, Best New Restaurant, Best Hotel Restaurant, Best independent Blog, People’s Choice, Special Recognition, Best Plating Display, Best Tasting Menu and finally Best of the Best.
The variety of flavors and styles were represented by Baja California with nominations in the following categories: Best Tasting Menu : Manzanilla from Ensenada, Best Independent Blog : Life&Food, Best Hotel Restaurant : Corazon de Tierra in Valle de Guadalupe and Best New Restaurant : Misión 19 in Tijuana along with Corazon de Tierra.
The awards were given on Tuesday night October 23rd, and two Baja California restaurants came back with awards, Mission 19 with best new restaurant and Corazon de Tierra with best hotel restaurant.
Something very notable in the categories for best new restaurant is that both of these Baja California restaurants have been in business less than two years; that only goes to show the great gastronomic progress and development that this region has gone through — a change that has shifted the perception of this region to the world.
These awards motivate us to get to know the different corners of Mexico, all of which are very unique in their own way.
