Starting on August 15th the town will be celebrating the Dia de Asuncion with horse races, rodeos, car and motorcycle races, surf and fishing competitions.
The fiestas will open with a “cabalgata”, something akin to a big horse parade of over 100 horses with the riders decked out in their finest traditional cowboy attire. The statue of the Virgin de Asuncion leads the parade through town to the local church where the blessing takes place. A nearby ranch will then host a BBQ.
The opening ceremony takes place in the evening with the crowning of the Queen of the Fiestas followed by a dance to a live band.
There will be daily events such as beach volleyball, a sand castle competition, a rodeo, horse races and the car and motorcycle races on Sunday. there’s a midway with rides and food booths and dances every night. The fishing tournament for yellow-tail and calico bass will be held over the weekend.
The Surf tournament is on August 11th before the fiestas begin.
There will also be lots of attractions for children, making this a great family event.
